Fish Feeding
Fish Feeding |
With bread-balls rolled, above the lake
He tip-toed on the docks
Beneath the bearded willow tree
That on the water knocks.
He only went to feed the fish
So none of them would die,
But found within that blackness mere
Reflections of the sky.
His bread-balls thrown into the lake,
He saw no fish appear,
But thought he heard the willow tree
Weeping in his ear.
He wondered why the foolish fish
Left the food uneaten,
When something in that blackened mere
Caused his step to weaken.
Above his bread-balls in the lake,
He began to totter,
As a drop from the willow tree
Splashed into the water.
