The Burning Night

The sun, hanging low
Over that distant horizon,
Spits fire at the earth.
I feel the flames burning,
Ever yearning to consume
This bloated heaving world.

All is quiet. Waiting. Waiting
For the coming of the night.
Even the trees are stiff:
But they know, they know
They can't avoid the silent
Creeping of the epizootic night.
